Welcome to CRYSTAL
Centre of Research for Computational Sciences and Informatics in Biology, Bioindustry, Environment, Agriculture and Healthcare (CRYSTAL) was officially established by the University of Malaya Board of Directors on the 17th of April 2008.

CRYSTAL is committed in developing the area that transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries as a focus of academic research excellence for University of Malaya.

CRYSTAL brings together life science-based researchers and computational scientists in a stimulating and nurturing environment for the development and training of a new type of scientist - one who can incorporate theory, simulation, and experiment from multi-resources to expand our understanding of modern life science problems.

Researchers are provided with an intellectual environment for facing problems that transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries and training opportunities with experts in different disciplines.

Workshop : Introduction to Automatic Gene Annotation in Ensembl (From: 05-12-2011  Until: 06-12-2011)

Dear researchers,

We are delighted to inform you that CRYSTAL, University of Malaya will be organizing a workshop on "Introduction to Automatic Gene Annotation in Ensembl" from 5th and 6th December 2011.

This 2-day workshop is aimed at developers and bioinformatics programmers interested in exploring Ensembl beyond the website. The workshop will consist of sessions on how to create your own core database, including the loading of a genome assembly into a database and the running of simple analyses using the Ensembl genebuild pipeline. Participants will be expected to have experience in writing Perl programs. A background in object oriented programming techniques and familiarity with databases (MySQL) are essential to follow the workshop. Knowledge of the Ensembl core API is also essential.

This workshop is organised in conjunction with InCoB/ISCB-Asia Joint Conference 2011.
